Replacement Radiators

IS IT TIME TO UPGRADE YOUR RADIATORS?

Radiators will eventually get to a point where they are beyond repair or restoration and will need replacing.  The average lifespan of modern radiators is 10-15 years.  As water runs through them corrosion is going to become a problem and small metal flakes will gradually build up and accumulate at the bottom of the radiator and this sludge creates blockages and cold spots on radiators.  You may notice rust spots appearing on the exterior of the radiator which is another indication of corrosion.  They will also be less efficient and will result in higher energy bills.

HOW TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF YOUR RADIATORS

Check them regularly to ensure there are no cold spots.

On bleeding the radiators, notice the colour of the water coming out. If it is discoloured, this may be a sign of sludge build up. (this should not be done unless you have been shown how to do it)

You can then decide if your system would benefit from a power flushing and/or whether the radiators are of an age where they should be replaced.  Adding an inhibitor or rust proofer to your system after flushing will help.  Give us a call to discuss your options or for general advice on looking after your current radiators.
